If you’ve browsed through my site, I hope you’ve noticed that I do things a little differently. That’s fine with me, different is good.
My focus is always on my clients, and my goal is always their healing. Many therapists have a diagnosis as their goal, instead of a tool that is sometimes used to assist in healing. I’ve found that diagnoses often lead to coping instead of healing.
I don’t rush through sessions because an insurance company requires me to. Too often, therapists are pressured to look at a clock over and over again to ensure that they will be finished in 47 minutes and write notes afterwards.
This is often stressful for both the client and the therapist. Sometimes, my sessions are done in 60 minutes, and sometimes they take longer. How can we place a time limit on something so vulnerable as sharing your emotions with another person?
For this reason and many others, I do not work with insurance agencies. When you have a session with me, your visit is completely confidential.
Unless you are at risk of going harm to yourself or someone else, everything we discuss is private. I do not need to submit a mental health diagnosis to an insurance agency or exchange information with a third party. I find that this approach is empowering and respectful of your privacy.
