As you’ve perused through my site I think you’ve noticed that I do things quite differently. That’s OK, I don’t mind standing out.
Another difference in my practice is that I don’t rush through sessions because I am required to complete a deadline for an insurance company. Too often, therapists are pressured to look at a clock to ensure that they will be finished in 47 minutes and write notes thereafter. This is stressful to both the client and therapist. Sometimes sessions can be done in 60 minutes and sometimes they take longer. How can we place a timer on emotions?
For this reason, I do not work with insurance agencies. When working with me, your visit is confidential. Unless you are at risk or hurting yourself or someone else, everything we discuss is private. I do not need to submit a mental health diagnosis to an insurance agency or exchange information with a third party. I find that this approach is empowering and respectful of your privacy.
